Not sure if it’s time?

An end-of-life consultation gives you time to talk about your pet’s comfort and quality of life, with no pressure to decide. It costs £90 and we never rush.

Step by step

What happens during a home euthanasia visit

Every family is different. This is a guide, and we’ll follow your lead.

  1. Contact us

Call or message Mara. She’ll listen, answer your questions and agree a time that suits your family, including evenings and weekends.
  2. Before the visit

We explain the aftercare options and their prices so you can choose calmly. You can also decide on the day.
  3. A gentle sedation

Mara first gives a sedative so your pet becomes relaxed and sleepy, in your arms or in their favourite spot.
  4. Saying goodbye

Once your pet is deeply asleep, the final injection is given. You can stay throughout and take as long as you need.
  5. Aftercare

If you choose cremation, Mara takes your pet into her care and arranges everything with our partner pet crematorium.

Communal cremation

Your pet is cremated with other pets that aren’t having an individual cremation. The ashes aren’t returned; they are scattered in an open green space at the crematorium.

Individual cremation

Your pet is cremated alone and the ashes are returned to you within up to 14 days, in a scatter container. Urns and caskets are available as keepsakes.

Arrange it yourself

You can contact a pet crematorium directly and arrange collection and cremation yourself.

Burial at home

You can keep your pet with you for burial at home. Please follow the GOV.UK guidance on pet burials and your local council’s rules.

Children and other pets

Many families find it helps for children and other pets to be present, or to say goodbye beforehand. Other pets often seem to understand better when they can see and smell their companion afterwards. We’re happy to talk this through with you before the visit.

Questions families often ask

How do I know when it’s time?

There is rarely one perfect moment. Look at whether your pet still enjoys eating, moving, resting comfortably and being with you, and whether bad days now outnumber good ones. If you’re asking yourself the question, an end-of-life consultation can help you look at your pet’s quality of life together, with no pressure to decide.

Is my pet in pain?

Signs can be subtle: restlessness, panting at rest, hiding, reluctance to move or be touched, changes in posture or appetite. Cats in particular hide pain. Mara can examine your pet at home and talk you through what she sees.

How do I know I’ve made the right decision?

Most families feel some doubt, and that’s a sign of how much you care. Choosing a peaceful end before suffering becomes severe is widely seen as a kind decision. Mara will give you her honest view of your pet’s comfort, and the decision stays yours.

What happens to my pet after the visit?

That depends on the aftercare you choose: communal or individual cremation through our partner crematorium, arranging cremation yourself, or burial at home. If you choose cremation through us, Mara takes your pet into her care at the end of the visit.

Can you come in the evening or at the weekend?

Yes. Weekend and bank holiday visits are available, and outside our regular hours we visit when Mara is available. Weekend and bank holiday fees apply, and extended-hours fees may apply.

Can I be with my pet the whole time?

Yes. You can stay throughout, hold your pet and take as long as you need. We never rush.

How do I pay?

By cash or bank transfer, before, during or at the end of the visit.
